Redyoos Founder Featured on Komo News

This month, Redyoos founder Cleo Escarez was featured on KOMO News, Seattle’s leading local station, for her nomination to the 2025 Earthshot Prize, one of the world’s highest honors in environmental innovation.
Most of us have a drawer full of jewelry that’s tangled, forgotten, or broken — but still too meaningful to toss. Cleo Escarez, the founder of Redyoos, knows that feeling all too well. After decades in corporate fashion, she had a revelation.
“I call this a ‘reduce my emission’ tour — there are a few landfills out there with my name on them after being in the fashion industry,” Cleo laughs.
That moment of honesty became her turning point.
From Waste to Worth
Cleo had spent years watching what happens to fashion after the runway. The waste haunted her. But instead of walking away, she decided to do something about it.
“This is my way of trusting my experience and taking my shot.”
Redyoos was born — not as a jewelry brand, but as what Cleo calls “an urban mine.”
“We take jewelry, we recycle it. We take precious metals and put them back into the supply chain.”
Every piece that comes in is handled responsibly, giving materials a new life instead of letting them end up in landfill.
The Name That Started With “Reduce”
Even the name Redyoos carries a personal story.
“I credit my 7-year-old daughter. She started with the word ‘reduce,’ and that’s how she phonetically spelled it. When I was looking for names, it worked.”
That family connection runs deep.
“I’m a mom, and my three kids are absolutely my why. I wanted to leave this planet healthier for them.”
A Vision Board Come True
When Cleo learned she had been nominated for the Earthshot Prize, it was a full-circle moment.
“It’s such a validating recognition. It’s one of the most coveted awards organized by the Royal Family in London — they honor organizations who represent an ‘earthshot.’ I had Earthshot on my vision board for year five.”
Months later, she opened her email.
“I got a ‘congratulations — you’re one of the nominees today.’ People in this award are doing phenomenal things. It’s such a great recognition.”
On Purpose and Faith
Cleo’s story is one of intuition, persistence, and purpose.
“Since the day I started to follow my purpose and passion, the universe has just opened up — and here we are now.”
When asked what advice she has for others, her message is simple and powerful:
“Trust yourself. You have everything you need to get started — and it doesn’t have to be big. I now have enough faith, and I’ve earned it through experience. We have so many problems — just pick one. It’s as simple as that."
What’s Next: TEDx November 8
Cleo will take the stage at TEDx Belltown Women on November 8 to share her talk how jewelry can be a solution for climate change. Her message is clear — small actions matter. Each bracelet, ring, or necklace sent to Redyoos is a piece of the solution.
